Day 29 ~ 19kms to Villaviciosa

I was ready for coffee at 0800 since I was told that was the earliest the hotel would do. First I had to collect our laundry. Problem was... it wasn't dry yet. No big deal. I separated our things but there was still more to come.
So we had a full delicious breakfast. An awesome omelette with bread (yes even gf), treats and cookies, orange juice and of course coffee. The laundry was packed damp. A minor problem to be solved later
It was all country roads today. We started our walk watching Jorge kick it in high gear. In fact we video taped it. We wanted to record the moment a long legged blonde walked past Jorge to capture his peacock feathers going on display. Harold made a wisecrack and he and I then laughed until our cheeks hurt and our bellies were cramping. Needless to say, Jorge put his jets engines on and we didn't see him for another 18kms.
Harold and I walked mostly together today but we admittedly started out very slow. Just strolling and chatting in the hot sun. Eventually we realized how slow our pace was so we put our ear buds in and focused on getting those kms behind us. It was a lovely walk today, mostly farm towns and forests. There was a nice creek and an old Roman bridge that ironically was underneath a massive, modern bridge.
The last hour into Villaviciosa was not my favourite walk. Maybe I was spoiled by the beaches in previous days.

I dropped my bag off at my hotel and met the guys at a bar to finally have an early dinner. Ensenada with Pollo a la plancha and vino Blanco and a cocacola zero. It was quite good actually.

We also discussed the guys plans going forward. Today was the end of our road together. The guys left for Aviles and tomorrow on to Santiago. For me, I stay on the Camino del Norte to walk alone for one more week to Ribadeo. It's not goodbye however because we are meeting up again on the 24th for one last hoorah. This time for Harold's birthday in Barcelona. I miss them already. As I walked away from them, back to my hotel on my own, the air went cool and the sky went dark. I  opened the window from my hotel room and watched the rain begin to fall.
Kind of poetic really. The rain chased us for weeks but never quite caught us until today, as we parted ways.

Walking without them tomorrow will be the beginning of a new walk for me. I just hope it fills my heart as much as they did.

Buen Camino Amigos xx
