Day 24 - 18 kms to Santillana del Mar

Last night, I had a fabulous sleep. I woke up at 6 and by 0800 I was sitting at a table set for one. There was no one around. Just me. I was brought fruit, ham and cheese, scrambled eggs with gluten free toast and coffee con leche, fresh squeezed orange juice and IT WAS AMAZING. I was so happy. I felt like a queen.
The fellas picked me up and we decided to start today in Mogro. Why? Because we are grown ups and we can do whatever we want. The truth is, I was forced off the Camino because of the hotel relocation so the guys were kind enough to get me back on track and back with my Camino family. I think they just like my snacks 🤣
We were dropped off at the church in Mogro and as we stepped out of the taxi the church bells chimed. Harold and I looked at eachother and knew this was going to be a great day.
We started walking through the little town and it was all country. A cow here and a horse there and then BAM. There it was. In a farm field. A blonde in all her glory. Naked.  Completely. Doing yoga. Downward dog. Towards us. In the sun. Jorge and I might have actually blushed 🤣 We truthfully could not believe what we were seeing.

This definitely topped the nude beach. I have to give this girl kudos. Talk about freedom. How liberating is that?
We giggled about that for way longer than we should have.
I think we actually walked through the bowels of Spain today. We passed a factory and walked beside a pipeline for a very long time. We crossed some train tracks and found a place for a snack.
Other than the nudity, we really had very little to look at.
We agreed today that we would all put in our earbuds and music would carry us for the afternoon. We each hiked at our own pace today and focused on arriving at our next town.
We hustled for the next 10k and were exhausted as we approached Santillana del Mar.
The views improved as we approached. Many Posadas and beautiful homes surrounded by green hills.
The town however was all stone. The walls and the streets. There were quaint shops, restaurants, bars but everything from medieval times. A big hit with the tourists but it was truly a sight to see. Historians believe the original church was built in 870 but the town we see today was built around the church in the 12th century.
The hotel we have is in the center of this medieval town and looks like a museum in itself. Heavy wooden doors, floors and shutters and wooden beams across the ceilings.
We found a Michelin star Restaurant and Harold made a reservation for 9.

We had plenty of time to explore so we had a quick snack and a drink on arrival and then walked the beautiful cobblestone streets. We had ice cream and then found another bar for a couple more glasses of wine. We sat outside and then heard beautiful music so I peeked around the corner and saw a beautiful woman playing a violin. I was in awe. It was so fitting for the town and the mood I was in. It was a great mood...I was also a little tipsy hahaha. I bought her CD and tipped her well to play Ave Maria for me and let me record her. Now we're best friends 🤣🍷
Dinner was fabulous although the service in Spain is extremely slow.... (except Jay in Guemes)
The guys had calamari and we all shared a cheese platter and it was awesome.

Then steaks with a peppercorn sauce and Vino Tinto. It was so yummy. We all parted ways after dinner, I went up to my room and fell asleep with ease. What a wonderful day it turned out to be.
Buenos Noches x
